Valero Benicia Refinery released about 4,449 pounds of sulfur dioxide during a flare that lasted from Oct. 23 to Oct. 28, said Terry Schmidtbauer, assistant director of the Solano County Department of Resource Management’s administration division.
In a letter to the Solano County Board of Supervisors, Schmidtbauer wrote that the refinery’s operations returned to normal after the event at a refinery flare stack.
He wrote that the incident caused “minor risk to air quality” near the refinery, 3400 East Second St., but the situation “returned to normal” once flaring was discontinued.
His report was made in compliance with Proposition 65 notifications requirements of the California Health and Safety Code.
