Benicia’s talented citizens are preparing for their time to shine on stage this Saturday in the Soroptimist Club’s 10th annual “Benicia’s Got Talent” show.
Susie Harper of Susie Harper’s School of Dance and Karen Hubbard of Featherer Pet will co-chair the show, which — along with a raffle and dessert sale that same night — represents the biggest fundraiser of the year for Soroptimist.
Last year’s show raised $7,000 for the organization, which works to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. And this year, “we are shooting for the same goal but we would love to go higher,” Harper said.
“The more money we raise, the more we can give out to support women and girls.”
Fifteen acts with more than 50 performers will include well-known local musicians and performers like Bob Muzzy, the Three Amigos, Trea Marie Devlin, Tanya Alota and Leslie Chapman.
“There will be a variety of dance numbers,” said Harper, in styles from energetic tap and hip-hop to Polynesian and Persian.
Young and exciting new talent will perform, too, Harper said, including Blake Zabrek, Angelique Harris and Emily Cooper.
“Blake is a talented young musician and composer. He is doing an original piece again,” Harper said.
Harris, a Benicia High School student, is featured in a YouTube video performing a song called “Wonderland,” and Cooper is the winner of the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award, given to young women who display outstanding volunteerism.
“It is quite a variety,” Harper said of the talent show’s complete lineup.
“We’re proud to be known as the Soroptimists who put on the local talent showcase and hope to continue the tradition.”

It goes to show that despite…
Local, the words of Victor Kiam are far more apropos, and an apology from you would be appropriate

Twelve-year-olds should not be allowed in the comment section.

Although mean, made me giggle.
A Beautiful Soroptimist says
Really? We challenge you to purchase a ticket or two and we’ll show you real beauty.
Leeann Cawley says
I think this discredits all that Soroptimist do for this community and is disgusting that comments like this are allowed by this publication. Insure hope the original writer never needs our help.
