Next weekend will be a good time to come to Pups ’N’ Purrz and take home a pet.
Umbrella of Hope, the Pittsburg-based adoption agency and a frequent partner of Pups ’N’ Purrz, will be one of more than 20 animal welfare agencies in Northern California taking part in Bissell Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” campaign. The foundation was established in 2011 with the goal of reducing pets in shelters and giving them homes. On March 18, anyone who adopts a dog or cat from one of the participating shelters will have their adoption fees paid for by the Bissell Pet Foundation. Those wishing to license their new pets can do so for between $14 and $30.
Umbrella of Hope’s adoption event will be hosted inside Pups ’N’ Purrz. Owner James Long said the store has hosted one prior “Empty the Shelters” event, and it was a success.
“There was, I think, five or six dogs that were adopted that day,” he said.
“Empty the Shelters” will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 18 at Pups ’N’ Purrz, located at 422 First St. For more information and to see a list of all participating shelters, visit bissellpetfoundation.org.
