Six Chihuahua mix puppies among animals available
Sunday is Mother’s Day, and those looking to get a special gift can go to Pups ’N’ Purrz the day before to bring home a four-legged friend.
Umbrella of Hope, the Pittsburg-based animal rescue group, will be hosting a special Mother’s Day-themed adoption event at Pups ’N’ Purrz. Several dogs and cats will be up for adoption at special discounted prices. Adoption fees for adult dogs have been reduced to $75, kitten adoption fees have been lowered to $50 for one feline and $75 for two. All dogs will receive a free collar and leash, and those who adopt will receive a free custom-engraved tag in the shape of a heart.
Among the animals available to adopt are six Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix puppies— three male and three female—who were born to a pregnant stray who was brought to Umbrella of Hope by the Contra Costa Animal Services. On Feb. 3, KangaRoo’s gave birth to the six puppies in a foster home until they had to be removed from her care after she tested positive for parasites, a uterine infection and severe emaciation. The puppies were bottle fed for weeks until they were able to eat wet food with a little bit of milk replacer and grow. In a March followup test, KangaRoo’s received a negative result when tested for parasites and was placed back in the care of her babies.
Now the pups are ready to have homes of their own, and Umbrella of Hope has applications to adopt. The dogs have had age-appropriate vaccines and regular dewormings and will be spayed, neutered and microchipped prior to going home. The puppies are crate-trained, ride well in cars when in crates, are good with cats and other dogs and need to be trained to be housebroken.
The adoption event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 13 at Pups ’N’ Purrz, located at 422 First St. For more information, contact the store at 748-7433 or Umbrella of Hope at beourpet@gmail.com.
