Vallejo residents may meet with members of Vallejo Police Department and other agencies July 11 during the department’s second annual Neighborhood Summit, an all-day workshop designed to strengthen the relationship between police and the community they serve.
Among the participants will be members of Vallejo Police Department’s Community Services section, code enforcement employees, the city attorney’s office, Solano County Sheriff’s Office, the Solano County District Attorney’s Office Neighborhood Law Program and Code 4 America, a private corporation the city of Vallejo brought aboard to evaluate citizen-government interaction, Lt. Kenny Park, public information officer, said.
The workshop will let citizens speak with members of Vallejo police and other law enforcement agencies, sharing information and ideas, particularly about how to reduce crime and blight and to air community issues and concerns, Park said.
Those attending will learn to identify and report activities that may “negatively impact the quality of life,” he said.
Among the training topics will be Vallejo’s Neighborhood Law Program, presented by representatives of the City Attorney’s Office who will talk about nuisance properties.
Other segments will teach residents how to establish neighborhood watch groups and how to differentiate between criminal or civil activities.
“Our hope is that the cooperative effort will help to reduce crime while enhancing the quality of life within our community,” Park said.
Breakfast and lunch will be served during the summit. Seating is limited, so those interested in attending must reply to Christina Encarnacion at Christina.Encarnacion@cityofvallejo.net or call 707-651-7184 to reserve a seat. They also may visit the website Nextdoor.com.
The summit will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11 at Normal King Center, 545 Magazine St., Vallejo.
