Benicia Schools Superintendent Janice Adams will join a host of local parents Saturday for a first-of-its-kind preschool fair at Liberty High School.
Benicia Moms Group, a group for women who have children younger than school age, has partnered with the Benicia Unified School District and participating preschools to launch the preschool fair, intended to be a “one-stop shop” for parents looking for a preschool in Benicia, mom and group member Ann Brooner said.
“Many parents and guardians have questions regarding preschool,” Brooner said in a news release, including, “When should my child start? Which preschool is right for my child? Does my child need to be potty trained?”
Attending the preschool fair gives parents and guardians the chance to ask these and other questions of the preschool representatives in attendance, narrow down options and arrange tours, Brooner said.
“As a mother of a 20-month-old, I am really excited about the event because I have LOTS of questions!” she said.
The preschools, co-ops and community organizations attending are: BUSD preschools located at Robert Semple, Joe Henderson and Matthew Turner elementary schools; Calvary Church Kids Co-op; Garden of Children Preschool; Happy Hearts Preschool; KinderCare; Noah’s Ark; Rainbow Connection; St. Dominic’s Preschool; Stepping Stones; Tender Hearts; Tiny Tots; Perspective Benicia Montessori School; Brickspace — A Lego Learning Center; Family Resource Center; and Benicia Moms Group.
Because preschool prepares children for kindergarten, transitional kindergarten teacher Christy Henning will speak about what children are expected to know prior to entering kindergarten, and how parents and guardians can help prepare their child for the transition.
Adams said she is “very pleased that the preschool fair is being held. Benicia is fortunate to have many excellent preschools that provide wonderful opportunities for young children.
“Preschool is extremely important in providing a foundation for success later in school and I hope this fair provides valuable information to parents in our community,” she said.
