Miss Green was teaching
When she happened to mention
The invented invention
Of Zacharias Jansen
She said, “Because of him
We now wash with soap.
Because it’s he who invented
The microscope.”
“And from then on we could see
What we saw not before,
The germs on our skin
That were making us sore.”
“And as they looked on,
They were everywhere.
They were inside your mouth.
They were stuck to your hair.”
“They were in your sneeze.
They were in your ears.
They were in your cough.
And inside your tears.”
“They were under your nails.
They were on your toes.
And there’s about a billion
Inside your nose.”
“So now we wash,
And scrub and clean,
With a bar of soap.”
Said teacher, Miss Green.
Then Billy G. Glass
From the back of the class
Said, “Pardon me please
But I have to ask.”
“I’d just like to know,
Cuz now I’m concerned.
Who was the nutcase
That invented GERMS?”
