Poetry Corner: D.L. Lang “Train Whistle Polka”

December 15, 2017 by Editor Leave a Comment

Grief is remembering moments
held together by tears. How
what once brought us joy
is another reminder of loss.

It is the heightened awareness
of a soul that was known
being woven into the fabric
of the mundane. Cherish them.

Hold fast to each and every
memory. Let songs intoxicate you
with the dreams of yesteryear.

Let all the myriad days when
you crossed paths leave you awash
in awe of their existence.

One day the memories
now so tinged by sadness
will be viewed in gratitude
for moments shared.
D.L. Lang is the current poet laureate of Vallejo. This poem is dedicated to the memory of Karl-Heinz Carl, her grandfather.
