When I was a youngster, back in the day…
I was looking for ways to increase my pay
My allowance was meager;
But I was most eager….to find without glitches
The way to more riches.
There were ballgames and movies I wanted to see;
Sports and comic books were important to me,
And a few cute girls were not lost on me.
So to help me out, my Mom lent a hand
“Why don’t you open a lemonade stand;”
The idea was so grand, no time was wasted;
She made the best lemonade I had ever tasted.
So I got a table and made a big sign; 25 cents a glass
And the results were just fine.
It was hot that year, and people had thirst
Some actually argued as to who was there first
And a few asked for seconds and even for thirds;
We sold out often and often had to replace
But thanks to my Mom we kept up the pace;
I think even you might be willing to concur
I had the makings
Of a real entrepreneur.
But summer faded quickly, school was at hand;
So I took all my profits and closed down my stand
Oh yes, one thing I forgot to mention…..The Good Humor Man
Negotiated a deal; he’d give me free ice cream
In exchange for a drink;
It was a good deal; a fair shake, I think
Now the years have gone by, many of them real grand
But I’ll never quite forget
My lemonade stand.
