A portion of East N Street being vacated took one step closer to becoming a reality after the Planning Commission voted to approve two applicants’ requests.
In order to facilitate the development of a single-family home, applicants Daraius and Judith Tata are requesting the city vacate portions of unimproved right-of-way adjoining two sides of the property located at 121 East N St. The Tatas’ request includes the vacation of approximately 2,000 square feet of alley right-of-way at the rear of the property and 1,977 square feet of East N Street right-of-way at the front of the property.
The topography of the area is distinguished by a general downward slope from northwest to south, according to a staff report. The right-of-way next to the front property line has a slope that contains approximately 17 feet from west to east along the front of East N Street, and the alley has a slope of about 8 feet from north to south. There is also an open drainage channel bisecting the lot diagonally from northwest to southwest.
Per Government Code Section 6540 public hearing by the Planning Commission to determine the General Plan regarding any street vacation, abandonment or acquisition of real property. City staff recommended the Planning Commission adopt the resolution finding that the proposed vacation of right-of-way is consistent with the General Plan.
Following the Planning Commission’s approval of the Tatas’ request, the City Council will now hold a public hearing and then decide to approve or deny the proposed right-of-way vacation.
In other business, Kari Birdseye and Trevor Macenski were unanimously re-elected as the Planning Commission’s respective chair and vice chair.
The Planning Commission is next slated to meet Thursday, June 14.
