The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High boys varsity soccer team couldn’t match up in a 6-0 loss to Pinole Valley in last Thursday’s Tri-County Athletic League regular-season finale at Dante Magnani Field.
Pinole Valley (14-2-1, 7-1-1 TCAL) scored two early goals for a 2-0 halftime lead. The Spartans scored again 10 minutes into the second half to take complete command.
Pinole Valley, which can wrap up a TCAL regular-season championship with a win over St. Joe’s on Tuesday, has outscored its opponents 46-8 this season and has allowed only one goal in league play.
“They’re a pretty good team,” said SPSV head coach Greg Coan.
The Bruins (3-9-1, 2-7-1 TCAL) finished fifth in the six-team Stone Division and will play on the road this coming Thursday in the opening round of the TCAL Playoffs. SPSV will celebrate Senior Night just before kickoff in Monday’s final home game against non-league opponent Berean Christian.
“I’m anticipating that we’ll play really well,” Coan said. “I know the seniors are really excited. They’ve been able to enjoy three wins this year after three years of wandering in the desert.”
