Jack Bell, owner of Suba Manufacturing (Right) stands with Mayor Elizabeth Patterson (Center) and Marie Knutson, recycling coordinator for Republic Services (Left) after being presented with an Eco Award from Republic Services at the Jan. 16 City Council meeting. Bell recycles everything from cardboard to wrapping to metals and wood, and he donates paint chip samples to Republic Services’ Dumpster Diversion Art Project and also donated counter tops to Habitat for Humanity. Eco Awards were also presented to Benicia Plumbing, Inc. for continuing recycling efforts from day one and Robert Semple Elementary School for being the first school in the district to adopt a new recycling program where students are assigned to a Green Team during lunch to direct students to dispose of waste in the proper containers. The Eco Award trophies are made from recycled glass and created by Lindsey Art Glass in Benicia and marble bases donated by RemodelMe in Martinez. (Courtesy photo)
