Eighth-graders Kairi Foy (Left) and Kailey Morris play a game of pool at the newly reopened Benicia Teen Center. The center, operated by the Kyle Hyland Foundation for Teen Support, held its grand reopening at 1135 Church St. Friday in a well-attended event featuring food, games and a tour of the new facilities. Teens showed up, as did community figures like Mayor Elizabeth Patterson, Benicia Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Charles Young, BUSD school board Trustee Diane Ferrucci and Benicia Police Officers Association Edward Criado and Kirk Keffer. The center is for teens ages 13 to 19 who either live in Benicia or attend its schools from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and earlier on CPT and minimum days. I like what they did with the place. Food was great, as well. Great for the community.
I’m glad the teens have a place to go, they need a place to hang out. First Street use to have a mom/pop coffee shop, where students hung out, their art was displayed, music was playing in the background. I was very disappointed to see that go.
