A 30,000-gallon drum containing asphalt oil ruptured Monday at Syar Industries, 885 Lake Herman Road, Vallejo, causing a small insulation fire, Vallejo Fire Department Capt. Arthur Gonzales of said.
Benicia and Valero Benicia Refinery fire departments provided aid to the Vallejo department after the oil seeped into a secondary storage drum, where it mixed with flammable oils, Gonzales said.
The insulation fire was described as small, and the asphalt oil did not ignite, he said.
“The substance is nontoxic,” he said, and no “shelter in place” or evacuation order was required.
“The situation is static, and no injuries were reported,” he said.
Solano County Environmental Management sent employees to the scene to examine the incident. “The cause of the rupture is not known at this time, and the incident is under investigation,” Gonzales said.
