■ Police not called after car wheels left track early Sunday
Two Union Pacific Railroad locomotives slipped off the track in UP’s automotive yard in Benicia early Sunday, Aaron Hunt, director of corporate relations and media, said Tuesday.“There were no injuries, no spills of any kind and no impact to motorists or others in the area,” he said.
He said the incident happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, when one wheel set from each of the two locomotives came off the tracks.
Both locomotives were returned to the rails later that day.
“The Union Pacific yard in Benicia is used to load finished automobiles onto rail cars for transport on behalf of our customers,” Hunt said.
Benicia police Lt. Scott Przekurat said the department learned about the derailment but officers did not respond. “We received a call from Union Pacific for information purposes but they did not require our assistance,” he said.
Hunt said the incident is under investigation.
