Residents in the Martinez-Benicia area are asked to assist with any information in the whereabouts of a Benicia graduate who has been missing since last week.

Sidney Avant, 24, was last seen at the Amtrak station in Martinez on Monday, Sept. 17. According to a Facebook post by her father Robert that was shared to the group “Benicia Happenings,” Sidney tried to purchase a train ticket but was unsuccessful. No records have been shown of her buying train or bus tickets elsewhere in her name. She has been registered with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office as a missing person, according to her father.

Avant had lived in Benicia where she attended Benicia and Liberty high schools, the latter of which she graduated from in 2012 as the school’s salutatorian. She told the Herald in 2012 that she was interested in zoology. She went on to attend Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo and had worked at an animal rescue and as a veterinary assistant, according to her Linkedin page.

Avant is 5 feet and 2 inches, weighs 105 pounds and has hazel eyes. Anyone with any information is asked to call her father at (805) 202-1229.
