Benicia Planning Commissioner and community volunteer Trevor Macenski has announced he is running for city council in Nov.

BENICIA — Planning Commissioner and community volunteer Trevor Macenski has officially announced that he will be running for city council in Nov.

“I look forward to giving back to our community to help tackle complex issues that include increasing water rates, deteriorating infrastructure, unfunded pension liabilities, and strained relationships with our local businesses”, he said in a statement.

Macenski has served Benicia in various leadership positions – Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Design Review Commission, Soltrans Community Advisory Board, Valero Community Advisory Panel. As an environmental planner and collegiate educator, he has supported hundreds of communities in Calif.

“This involvement has given me first hand knowledge of building consensus among diverse interest groups, solving complex problems facing Californians such as homelessness, affordable housing, water conservation, energy conservation, economic diversity and environmental preservation. It’s because of this diverse background and work ethic that our community has entrusted me with guiding the future of our community on the Planning Commission’, he said in a statement.

Macenski’s goals for the city are straightforward – protect residents’ quality of life and support local businesses to ensure Benicia’s stability and security. As a council member, he’ll strive to improve the city’s:

  • STRATEGIC PLANNING

Focus on developing housing and commercial uses in downtown Benicia that balance the pressures of economic expansion while maintaining the historic fabric of our community. Prioritize housing and simplify our building and development standards.

  • OPEN GOVERNMENT

More transparency – Initiate a program to engage our community beyond cable TV coverage of Council meetings. Countless communities around the US have successfully embraced technology to help better reach its citizens.

  • FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Facilitate transparent financial and performance audits, streamline processes and better elevate our participatory budgeting process, reduce costs and support business.

  • SAFETY AND SECURITY

Expand crime prevention technology citywide to help protect our citizens and our officers while preserving emergency and fire response times.

  • BUSINESS COLLABORATION

Prioritize expanding our existing businesses while attracting job centric employers to help build the financial stability for Benicia’s future.

  • EDUCATION

Ensure essential support for public education, preserve and enhance safe access to schools, and invest in campus safety and security.

“As an environmental planner I work with countless communities across California engaging in some of our States toughest challenges. I look forward to engaging with fellow Benicians in the coming months to listen and understand what they feel is important and I’m confident that my experience and passion will help our community plan for a better future”.
