The Benicia Public Library has added a monthly bilingual storytime in American Sign Language (ASL) and English to its Saturday storytime repertoire. The library also hosts a storytime in English and Mandarin.
“We are so excited to add another bilingual storytime,” Library Director David Dodd said in a statement. “Our Mandarin storytime has a good following, and I’m looking forward to providing this new opportunity.”
The ASL and English storytimes will be held the first Saturday of the month, joining English-only storytimes on the second and third Saturdays of the month and English and Mandarin storytimes on the fourth Saturdays of the month. Library Technician Gina Shimel will be teaming up with Youth Services staff to provide the ASL portion of the new storytimes. All storytimes are held from 11:30 a.m. to noon in the Dona Benicia Room of the Benicia Public Library, located at 150 East L St. The programs are free and open to children of all ages.
