The pot ordinance
I am writing to express my point of view regarding the upcoming Benicia City Council meeting’s discussion on the moratorium on all marijuana related activities in the city.
I have smoked recreational marijuana for many years, beginning in college in 1969. I have used it to relax, to inspire myself, to enjoy sharing with friends and to give myself a bit of a buzz. All of the previous descriptions of why I like to smoke pot could be similar to the reasons why my parents, friends and a great percentage of people I know enjoy the effects of alcohol.
Now that marijuana is legal in California, I find the understanding of why people smoke pot has not been fully understood by the non-pot smoking portion (minority?) of our population. We do not get addicted to pot, unlike tobacco or alcohol. We don’t smoke two packs a day. Sometimes we only smoke one puff a couple times a week, so the behaviors of pot smokers don’t really matter as far a
Prop 64– the legalization of marijuana– passed by an impressive 63 percent margin. Granted, there are many reasons why people should not smoke pot: underage, while driving a car and especially when you do not know the source. However, if you are a person who relies on the medicinal and recreational benefits of smoking weed, the ability to receive a safe delivery of a small amount of certified marijuana to their home, especially those with a doctor’s prescription or those who can not drive, should be perfectly legal.
