Sister Cities thanks
On July 2, eight members of the Tula-Benicia Sister Cities Association came to Benicia for their Bi-Annual Visit. This year, most had never been to Benicia before. They spent time getting acquainted with Benicia, seeing the Benicia Historical Museum, the State Capital and the Fisher Hanlon House, going to Recology in San Francisco to learn about recycling, visiting the Napa River Flood Restoration project and getting great ideas about how to prevent flooding in their town as the two rivers are very similar, and participating in our Torchlight Parade and Independence Day celebrations. They were absolutely thrilled with this visit.
On behalf of the Benicia Tula Sister Cities Association I wish to thank all who helped make this visit so successful:
* The sponsors, whose support was essential to the success of the visit, which included Benicia Plumbing, Pacific Gas & Electric, Republic Services, Skyview Memorial Lawn, Umpqua Bank, Underground Company, Valero Refining Company and Westamerica Bank.
* Those who gave their support, time and effort included Mayor Patterson, the City Council, the Benicia Fire Department, city staff, Benicia Main Street, the Gibbs and Seaman families, and all the citizens who reached out to make our visitors feel so welcome.
* We had two students who came up earlier in June as a part of our student exchange program, and Gracie Woy of Benicia went with the returning students to Mexico for her exchange visit with families there. The host families were so gracious in showing the students as much California living as they could.
* My personal thanks to our hard-working board, whose efforts made this visit so successful.
