CAC says thanks
On Wednesday, April 25, the Benicia Community Action Council held its 9th annual fashion show benefiting the Senior Meal program. The theme this year was “The Greatest Show on Earth,” and the Master of Ceremonies– Christina Strawbridge– once again outdid herself to make it one of the best. Along with Fashion Show Chairwoman Michele Hughes, they transformed the Clocktower into a circus-like atmosphere. Models walked the runway under “the big tent,” tables were decorated in red and white, with Cracker Jacks and animal cookies serving as centerpieces, and Councilmember Mark Hughes popped fresh popcorn for the guests to snack on as they arrived.
We would like to acknowledge the following. Without their help and support, none of this would have been possible:
* Our corporate sponsors, Ponder Environmental and Republic Services.
* Valero refinery for their continuous generosity over the years.
* Venticellos for the delicious lunch.
* Laura Edgars and Terry Patterson for wine donations.
* Sherry Cook for supplying the desserts.
* Jennifer Moore of Coldwell Banker for the popcorn machine.
* Christina S of Benicia and Williamson and Company for outfitting our models: Christie Finn, Robert Jones, Rachel O’Shea, Steve Gizzi, Kate Gibbs, Kim Imoden, Heather McLaughlin, Elizabeth Patterson, Tony Jones, Susan Hurl, Donna Ernst, Julie Peterson, Patty Gavin, Suzanne Cummings-Castleman and her dog River.
* Barbara Jewell for kindly donating her winnings from our 50/50 raffle.
* Brandon from Marina Vista for cleanup, and the students from Liberty High School for all their help in setup, serving and cleaning up.
* And last but not least, our heartfelt thanks to all those who purchased ads sponsored tables or bought tickets to attend. It truly does take a village, and we appreciate ours every single day.

director of Benicia Community Action Council
Support Prop. 68
Proposition 68, the Parks, Environment, and Water Bond is on the June 5, 2018 ballot. Join me and vote yes on Proposition 68. A “Yes” vote supports this measure to authorize $4.1 billion in general obligation bonds to fund parks and water projects throughout the State. This is the first statewide parks and water bond to appear before voters since 2006.
Of the $4.1 billion total, the bond provides $1.3 billion for parks and recreation projects, most of which would be used to build or improve local parks. Among the many provisions of Proposition 68 each Solano County city will receive a minimum of $200,000, and Solano County is guaranteed at least $400,000 for parks projects. This money can be used for deferred maintenance and/or new parks and water projects. Proposition 68 also designates $218 million to repair and improve State parks desperate for money to pay for deferred maintenance. I will encourage our local elected officials to ensure that a portion of that money goes for repair and maintenance to our two Solano County State Parks – the Benicia Capitol State Historic Park and the Benicia State Recreation Area.
On June 5 or by mail, help ensure clean, safe drinking water, protect natural resources, and improve and maintain State and local parks by voting Yes on 68! To help with the Proposition 68 campaign or learn more about the proposition contact Amy Hartman at ahartman@greenbelt.org.
Bob Berman,
Benicia
