Congratulations, Carquinez Village
For more than two years, Benicia residents Lois Requist and Judie Donaldson have spent countless hours working with the community and local organizations – recruiting members and volunteers along the way – to bring the vision and mission of Carquinez Village to fruition. The launch of Carquinez Village, which took place on Monday, April 3 at Carter’s Business Café (CBC), was a celebration of their efforts to create a network of seniors for seniors.
The Carquinez Village, which also serves seniors in Vallejo along with Benicia, joins more than 200 open Villages and more than 150 in development in 45 states and the District of Columbia. The mission is a “neighbor-to-neighbor” volunteer organization that provides social, practical, and referral assistance to older adults who want to remain in their homes and live full and independent lives as they age.
Organizations like Carquinez Village need strong local government and community support. To get involved and to learn about memberships, visit www.carquinezvillage.org, call 707.297.2472 or email info@carquinezvillage.org.
The social and cultural benefits they will bring to Benicia and Vallejo gives us all reason to celebrate. Congratulations again to Lois, Judie and the founding members of Carquinez Village.
Lionel Largaespada,
Benicia
