Play on, Benicia Chamber Players!
Congratulations to the Benicia Chamber Players for their magnificent performance at the Benicia Capitol on Sunday afternoon! The playing was flawless, full of energy and very moving – everything that one could hope for. But then, the musicians are all professionals with standards of the highest order. Many thanks to violinists Clif Foster and Karen Shinozaki, violists Meg Eldridge and Caroline Lee and cellist Brady Anderson – they were brilliant!
During the intermission I was talking to one of the high school students in attendance and she said that she was so “jazzed” by the speed and rhythm of the last movement of the Beethoven String Quartet, (opus 59, no. 2), she wanted to get up and dance! And three of us little old ladies admitted that we were brought to tears by the emotional sensitivity and exquisite playing of the second movement in the same piece. There was something for everyone at the concert!
The acoustics in the Capitol building are perfect for this type of music and I was delighted to know that there are three more Sunday concerts to come – Dec. 3, Feb. 11 and May 13, all at 2 p.m.
Many thanks to Mozart, Einstein and Me for sponsoring the concerts and to Mr. Foster for organizing such a brilliant ensemble – another artistic treasure for Benicia!
