Letter: Like-minded groups are good

August 3, 2018 by Editor 1 Comment

Like-minded groups are good

Benicia is run by democratic principles; fair elections, free press, open government.  Complaints about agendas and biases and quasi-shadow interest groups miss the point.
Of course there are diverse opinions, and of course, there are groups formed of people with like minds.  How else would issues be brought to light, examined and voted on?  How else would candidates receive encouragement, support and financing?  How else would we know about our choices?  Choices like who is concerned about the  consequences of climate change; who wants us to have a say about clean air in our town; who is running for office who are of like mind?
“Personal agendas” are just beliefs, intentions, interests and experience.  The more community service a candidate can list, the better we can know that person. The more that person indicates interest in the same ideals I have, the more I lend my support to that person. And don’t you look to see who donates to their campaigns?  I do. Those are the reasons I am supporting Kari Birdseye for City Council.

Susan Street,
Benicia

Susan you are correct, I do look who donates and supports certain candidates for public office. I also had it in my LTTE who donated to Kari Birdseye.. Yes, it is important and that is why I would not vote for Kari Birdseye for City Council. Supported by a hi-jacked group that had their own Pro Bono lawyer that tried to go over the heads of City Council, City Manager, City Attorney and City Staff. Guess what that group got beat 3/2 and also 3/2 on the rehearing. The council has it figured out. That is not how this city is run and it must stop. No better time than in 2018 and 2020 city council/mayor elections. Agenda driven ideals that are put on the council agenda that delay the important work of this very fine City Manager supported by a very fine City Staff is wrong and pushed by very small group of the usual suspects. Susan are you a member of the “ISO Working Group”? The chairman of the ” Progressive Democrats of Benicia” or as I call them with word Socialist added is a member. The things you use as examples are fine. Put when you became so independent and try to hi-jack the City Council with an outside Pro Bono Attorney backed by the PDB that is a “Quasi-Shadow Government”. It loses every time. I do look forward to your rebuttal LTTE every time I write something. I thank you and it enforces my driven messages to inform the very fine local voter/residents. I believe they are listening. Again thank you Susan.
