Information for voters available
The primary election is Tuesday, June 5 and many people have already started voting by mail. Voters will be choosing candidates for U.S. Senate, representatives to Congress, state and county offices as well as making decisions on five state propositions and one important regional measure.
With more candidates running than ever, it may seem overwhelming to voters to make decisions. The League of Women Voters has created several nonpartisan resources to help.
First is Smart Voter, a printed pamphlet which gives detailed information with pros, cons, and financial data about all the ballot measures. These helpful booklets are available at the Benicia Public Library’s information table.
Second, Voter’s Edge California (votersedge.org) is an online site that lists all candidates and shows photos, top priorities, and other materials submitted by the candidates themselves. It also displays the financial information about who has contributed to the various campaigns. Information, pros and cons, and financial data about the ballot measures can be found there also.
Third is the League of Women Voter’s California website which offers pros and cons of ballot measures as well as the League recommendations how to vote on them.
Finally, for more information about Regional Measure 3, the controversial measure to increase bridge tolls to help pay for many traffic reducing projects in the Bay Area, voters can check lwvbayarea.org and read their recent publications about it, or view a video of a recent debate on the measure. Our own Benicia League presentation about Regional Measure 3 is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/35qFoQ6-aRw.
We hope all of you will take the opportunity to vote on or before Tuesday, June 5.
Democracy is not a spectator sport.
