Benicia High’s girls varsity basketball team survived a scare from Fairfield on Tuesday, outlasting the Lady Falcons 41-38 in Fairfield.\
The Lady Panthers (10-3, 1-1 SCAC) were tied with Fairfield (3-11, 0-2) at halftime and led by only two after three quarters. Big baskets by Emma Ward and Michelle Li in the fourth quarter and four big points by Elizabeth Sweeney down the stretch helped Benicia pull out the victory.
Li finished with 13 points and three assists while Ward added 11 points. Sweeney grabbed eight rebounds and Kaylan Lockrem pulled seven rebounds. Rashane Johnson led Fairfield with a game-high 18 points and teammate Rayonna Allen added 10 points.
Benicia plays at Bethel on Friday night.
