Benicia High’s girls tennis team remained perfect on the season after a 9-0 victory over visiting American Canyon on Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers are now 3-0 in the Solano County Athletic Conference, tied with Vanden for first place. Benicia has yet to drop a single set in 18 singles and doubles matches this season.
“It was a pretty solid performance,” Benicia head coach Lisa Burton said of her team’s sweep of American Canyon (2-1) in the home opener for the Lady Panthers.
Michelle Li had her most dominating performance of the year, winning her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0.
“Michelle was able to handle her opponent’s hard serve and take control of the match,” Burton said.
Lily Hayward was battling a cold but managed to hang on for a 6-2, 7-5 victory in No. 2 singles. Samantha Beyer won her No. 3 singles match, 6-2, 6-2, and Madeline Beyer won her No. 4 singles match, 6-0, 6-3.
Melanie Fisher cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory in No. 5 singles, and Nicole Go completed Benicia’s singles sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in No. 6 singles.
Benicia’s doubles teams continue to wreak havoc on the SCAC. Katie Voss and Gabriella Traver teamed up for a 6-0, 6-2 victory in No. 1 doubles. Adeline Morley and Madison Lammert were 6-3, 6-0 winners in No. 2 doubles, while Milagros Esmerode and Megan Klein won their No. 3 doubles match, 6-1, 6-0.
“All three doubles played solid, coming through in the clutch points,” Burton said.
The Lady Panthers hosted Bethel on Wednesday and face their toughest test of the season next Tuesday when they play at Vanden.
