The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls varsity volleyball team improved to 12-7 overall and 2-1 in the Tri-County Athletic League after a 25-17, 25-13, 25-16 sweep of the Salesian Pride on Tuesday in Richmond.
Salesian (10-9, 0-3 TCAL) was staying competitive against the Lady Bruins until sophomore outside hitter Morgan Lawson suffered a head injury in the second set. The Pride were never the same without her on the court.
“That kind of put their team in a spiral,” SPSV head coach Danette Domecus said.
Caroline Gallagher led the Lady Bruins with 10 kills, six digs, two aces and two blocks. Candice Turk added six kills while teammate Makahla Bolko chipped in with five kills, four aces and seven digs.
“We played well,” Domecus said. “What we did on our side was what we needed to do and we were successful. Salesian gave us a lot of free balls so we were able to work on some things.”
Other standouts for SPSV included Jordan Murphy (five kills), Kamryn Mitchell (10 assists, six digs) and Chloe Ortega (12 assists).
The Lady Bruins host Berkeley on Friday in a non-league match.
