The St. Patrick St. Vincent High girls varsity volleyball team improved to 2-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division after a 25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21 victory over host St. Mary’s last Thursday.
The Lady Bruins (7-6 overall) cruised through the first two sets until St. Mary’s (6-6, 0-2 TCAL) battled to a win in the third set.
“They really came back and started fighting us,” said SPSV senior Julia Kistner. “But we focused on finishing in the last set and did a pretty good job.”
Malia Bolko led the way with 19 kills, five aces and nine digs. Kistner had four aces and seven digs, while Halle Webster added eight kills and five blocks.
Other standouts for SPSV included Catherine Cortez (19 assists), Tiffany Diaz (seven kills, three blocks and 11 digs) and Nikki Lumauod (five kills, three blocks, 14 assists).
“Everyone really stepped it up,” Kistner said.
The Lady Bruins play at St. Joe’s on Tuesday.
