The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls varsity volleyball team gave everything it had in last Thursday’s Tri-County Athletic League championship match but fell short in a 25-17, 22-25, 27-25, 26-24 loss to host St. Mary’s.
SPSV (23-12) had its chances in each of the final two sets, only to see top-seeded St. Mary’s (14-10) pull out the big points late.
“It’s disappointing,” said SPSV senior Nikki Lumauod, who had four kills, seven assists and 12 digs. “We just didn’t finish out the sets. There were a lot of moments where we were ahead of them and they caught up with us.”
It was the first time in three meetings this season where St. Mary’s and SPSV didn’t play a five-set match.
Freshman Caroline Gallagher led the Lady Bruins with 17 kills, 28 digs and two blocks. Makahla Bolko added five kills, 20 digs and three aces, Kamryn Mitchell had 25 assists and two aces, and Candice Turk finished with five kills and two blocks.
The Lady Bruins now await seeding into the upcoming North Coast Section playoffs.
