With the Tri-County Athletic League season quickly winding down, the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls varsity volleyball team seems to be generating some momentum heading into the North Coast Section playoffs.
Caroline Gallagher had 10 kills, eight digs and three aces as the Lady Bruins swept host El Cerrito on Tuesday, 25-16, 25-19, 25-20. It was the sixth straight victory for SPSV, which swept the Drake Invitational last Saturday without losing a set.
The Lady Bruins (20-9, 4-2 TCAL) have gotten a big boost with the return of senior setter Nikki Lumauod, who missed nearly a month after injuring her shoulder Sept. 9 against Marin Academy. Lumauod had eight kills and 18 assists as SPSV swept the Lady Gauchos for the third time this season.
“She really brings a lot of leadership to the court and we really need that,” SPSV head coach Danette Domecus said of Lumauod. “Everything runs faster through her and she plays great defense.”
Makahla Bolko had 12 digs and six kills for SPSV. Candice Turk added four kills and teammate Shaina Snyder had 10 digs.
The Lady Bruins celebrate Senior Night on Thursday at home against Salesian. SPSV closes out the regular season with road matches next week at St. Joe’s and St. Mary’s.
