The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls volleyball team had its season officially ended Wednesday night after a 25-19, 25-23, 25-17 loss to Sonora in the opening round of the Northern California Division III playoffs.
Sonora (23-7), the No. 4 seed in the NorCal bracket, was led by co-captains Riley Patterson and Riley Hemmington, senior Makenna Poole and junior Molly O’Reilly. The Lady Wildcats were able to hit around SPSV’s blocks for most of the night and held off the Lady Bruins in a crucial second set.
“They had one hitter who was really good at hitting lines,” SPSV senior Nikki Lumauod said of Sonora. “If we had been more focused, we could have beaten them.”
Freshman Caroline Gallagher led the Lady Bruins with 12 kills, nine digs and two aces. Makahla Bolko added five kills and 15 digs, and senior Candice Turk had three kills. Other contributors for SPSV included Kamryn Mitchell (two aces, two kills, four assists, eight digs) and Shaina Snyder (18 digs, two aces).
The No. 11 seeded Lady Bruins finished 24-14 on the season and reached the NorCal Tournament for a second straight year.
“I think overall we did pretty well,” Lumauod said. “I’m really proud of my team and how far we went.”
