Danielle Kranz pitched a one-hit shutout and Chanler Powell hit her second home run of the season as Benicia High’s varsity softball team crushed host Clayton Valley Charter on Monday, 18-0.
Kranz, who had pitched no-hit shutouts in each of her previous two starts, gave up a hit to Clayton Valley’s Rachel Siver with two outs in the first inning but no more hits the rest of the way. Kranz walked one, struck out seven and improved to 7-3 overall after getting her first non-conference win of the season.
Benicia’s offense scored 10 times in the first inning alone, with Powell capping the outburst with a three-run homer. Alex Wardlow went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs and two RBI. McKenna Gregory also had a double, three runs and two RBI, and Powell ended up 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Taylor Bloch went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI.
Benicia (9-4, 7-0 Solano County Athletic Conference) hosts Vallejo in SCAC action on Wednesday.
