All-female Queen tribute band to perform at Empress
Did you know that there exists an all-female tribute to the band Queen, and that you can see them at Vallejo’s Empress Theatre the day after Thanksgiving? No, this is not fantasy. This is real life.
The Killer Queens are a group of five Bay Area women who pay homage to Queen, the British band that blended glam and hard rock with opera and took the rock world by storm in the ‘70s and ‘80s. The Killer Queens are fronted by Nina Noir portraying Frederica Mercury, an obvious homage to late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. She captures Mercury’s dynamic and larger-than-life vocal presence while injecting her own soulful style. She is rounded out by guitarist Lindy Day portraying Brianna May, bassist Diana Rey as Joan Deacon, drummer Karla Downey as Regina Taylor and keyboardist Nichole Boaz as Queen’s unofficial fifth member Spike Edna.
The Killer Queens bill themselves as “the world’s only all-female tribute to Queen,” and they are inviting you to check out what they have to offer this Friday at the Empress as they perform some of Queen’s biggest hits, including “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “I Want to Break Free” and more. Opening for them will be The Zach Waters Band, a blues/rock trio out of Sacramento. One could say it is a show that is guaranteed to blow your mind.
The show will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24 at the Empress Theatre, located at 330 Virginia St. in Vallejo. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 online and $20 at the box office and over the phone. As with all shows being held at the Empress in November, a percentage of the proceeds will go to benefit victims of the Northern California wildfires.
