I seek a word that perhaps I can use
Just to tell you the things that I feel
So the world that exists just outside of my head
Knows this life I’ve created is real
It doesn’t matter if it is quite short
I don’t care if the word’s very long
I’ve had a way with my words from the start
I must find it and not get it wrong
There must be a word that explains all the love
That can also describe all the pain
A word that sums up all the losses I’ve seen
A concise, precise one word refrain
I know if I wait it will come to me soon
In the form of a verb or a noun
I will search all the adjectives in all the books
Till that one perfect word becomes found
I’ll read and I’ll search dictionaries until
I am tired and I’ve grown long of tooth
And one day I’ll discover the word that I seek
And I’ll use it to tell you the truth
