I live in the light, of a flickering flame
Long ago I had hopes, and had flesh and a name
It’s been many years, since I met my reward
And awakened aware, in the light of the Lord
‘Twas a cold Christmas Eve, when I breathed my last breath
And I prayed to bring peace, to the parents I left
So I stayed for an hour, and a day and a year
And I watched and I wished, that the living were near
Then I gathered my courage, to ask for a wish
Of the one that fed multitudes, loaves and small fish
“Let me return, just one day to spread joy,
To the men and the women, and girls and the boys.”
“The pain of the meek, tests the faith of the people.
They ask you to help them, on knees beneath steeples.”
So God, in his grace, granted me Christmas Eve
To return to the Earth, for the ones who believe
Some think I’m Saint Nicholas, some think I’m fate
What I am is the answer, that’s come from the gate
So I watch and I wait, until just the right minute
And shine down a light, which they feel when they’re in it
Christmas Eve I will come, and do all I can do
But the rest of the year, I must leave up to you
Just take pause to recall, when surrounded by stuff
There are many in pain, ‘cause they don’t have enough
So here’s hoping my story, has planted a seed
Make a miracle happen, for one who’s in need
May the Spirit of Christmas warm your hearts
And may the flickering flame burn forever
