Entertaining company, and rushing to the mall
Writing cards and baking pies; there’s lighting to install
The many things for us to do, can leave us overwhelmed
It seems our ship will run aground, without us at the helm
So try to keep the goal in sight, remembering just why
We make the extra effort, as the Christmas Eve draws nigh
Christmas is for children, and we’re not young anymore
To give delight to others, is the thing we do it for
When Yuletide’s getting hard to take, and leaves you feeling small
Take a breath and stand up straight, and rise above it all
Make each one you meet
Have a
Very
Merry

Dear Mr. Burkhart,
Christmas is not for all grown ups and kids.
Here is a comic strip that perfectly explains my Christmas time experience while
teaching in your town for almost a quarter century. As I write this, I can almost hear the refrains
from the community chorus, “She’s the Grinch…get over it!” or “She always has to be politically correct.”
Well folks, this is different.
This fact of life, (call it what you will), is real because I lived it in your town.
You don’t “get over it” and just move on because it makes the citizens
Comfortable again. Growth is uncomfortable. Hey, is it my turn to say, “Get over it.”?
I came to realize the slings and arrows I took in the line of duty to your kids was the school’s diversion and act of denial. But that understanding didn’t lessen the pain for me.
Everything was all good again once I was censored and put in my place.
Thank you so much for providing this format where finally I can express myself
to your community without being ostracized and demonized.
The condescending responses I receive are much easier to take in virtual reality!
I think I have earned the right to say there are unkind Christians.
