I went for a drive, it was the day after Thanksgiving
The merchants all were busy, hey; they have to make a living
Friday was its blackest, and the malls were overflowing
With the fervor of the shoppers, and their comings and their goings
Radio commercials, were a jingle, jingle, jingle
As they warned the busy shoppers, of the coming of Kris Kringle
Everybody bitching ‘bout, the traffic and the crowding
Cussing curses at each other, with their crying for out louding
All at once it hit me, like a hammer on my head
“Put aside the hype and think about the good instead!”
Every single soul that has some kindness in their heart
Knows the season’s coming, and that this is just the start
A time for little children, who believe in Santa Claus
And maybe even some of us, who think it’s real because
There’s a special magic that will heal you if you let it
All the year it’s lying dormant, so adults too soon forget it
The comfort of a fire with friends, the grace of selfless giving
To the homeless and the meek, to give them hope and help their living
To see the friends and lovers, from your past and from your present
Cast away the bad and raise a glass, to toast the pleasant
As for Christmas; let me tell you, so you’ll know it and you’ll see
That; if it isn’t in your heart; don’t look beneath a tree
