The blood of the soldier
Spills out on the field
Awash through the streams and the rain
And since time first began
At the dawning of man
He has suffered, enduring our pain
_
Through the years and the seasons
He’s fought for all reasons
Not questioning deeds that he’s done
One for all, all for one
Do or die, Mother cries
As she says her goodbyes to her son
_
He fought for Ramadi
Against the Jihadi
He died holding Hamburger Hill
Then his leaders retreated
Mistakes were repeated
Once more he would die and would kill
_
Banded with brothers
They fought all the others
Left his job and his lover and school
To turn battlefields red
Fight beside fallen dead
On the whimsy of Kings, Queens and fools
_
So remember him now
And remember his vow
To his God and his country he swore
And get ready; it’s coming
The drummers are drumming
Up reasons to send him to war
