Those looking for a good time and even better music can come down to Benicia’s First Street Cafe tonight at 8 p.m. to support the local indie rock band, Floral Jacket.
Despite being heavily influenced by successful bands such as Arctic Monkeys, The Frights and Fidlar, the members of Floral Jacket pride themselves on being unique.
“We just make it (music) our own,” lead singer Gabriella Buchanan said.
Starting off with humble beginnings, Floral Jacket has been in the studio producing their album and playing at venues such as Gordon’s Music and Sound in Fairfield.
The way Floral Jacket was formed was truly by coincidence. Lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Buchanan was working at a music store and was surprised one day when a customer came in wearing unintentionally matching outfits with her. That stranger turned out to be James O’Hara, a skilled guitarist. Inspired by each other’s musical talents, Buchanan and O’Hara decided that they wanted to form a band. Looking around, Buchanan realized that she was surrounded by talented musicians at her job. She recruited versatile music artist Kayton Rivera as drummer, and an equally skilled artist, Angel Tapia, to play bass.
The Floral Jacket members are currently making final changes to the two out of three songs that they want to release as a demo, and they are also working on an upcoming album.
When asked about their band’s future, Rivera said they had a simple but pure goal: “To be in everyone’s ears.”
First Street Cafe is located at 440 First St. You can follow Floral Jacket on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook at: Floral Jacket.
