Owners of the building that houses The Chill and Luxe Hair Design will ask the Historic Preservation Review Commission on Thursday for permission to expand their patio.
Principal Planner Amy Million wrote in an Aug. 11 report that Lee and Susan North, who own the Treasury Commons Building, have proposed a larger patio in front of tenant spaces 360 and 362 First St. Million is recommending approval.
“The multi-tenant commercial building has two individual patio areas adjacent to the First Street sidewalk in front of 372 First St. and 366 First St.,” Million wrote. The patios are higher than the sidewalk and enclosed on the front and sides by decorative wrought-iron railing supported by wood posts.
The Norths have asked to replace some planting area on the southeast corner of the property with the patio extension, she wrote, but an existing landscaped planter on the southern property line next to Point Benicia Way would remain.
The proposed project would expand the outdoor area for use by The Chill, a wine bar at 362 First St., as well as other customers and building tenants. The Chill has had California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control approval to serve patio drinks since 2011, Million wrote.
While most of the proposal complies with existing guidelines, The Chill’s existing sign would need to be moved, Million wrote, and a separate sign permit would need to be approved before that change would be made.
The Benicia Historic Preservation Review Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Commission Room of City Hall, 250 East L St.
