A bill that would modernize and expand the SolTrans Curtola Park-and-Ride hub in Vallejo has been signed into law, state Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis, said.
Wolk, who wrote the legislation, is Benicia’s representative in the state Senate. She called the park-and-ride site “a vital transportation hub in Solano County.”
Brown signed Wolk’s Senate Bill 1368 on Tuesday.
The new law lets Caltrans transfer its property surrounding the Curtola Park-and-Ride to Solano County Transit (SolTrans) and gives SolTrans, in partnership with Solano Transportation Authority, the authority to make improvements to the site, which have been under way since June.
“This is great news,” Wolk said as soon as Brown signed her bill.
“I thank the governor for signing my legislation into law, and thank SolTrans and STA for their work on this legislation and all they do for this community.”
The Curtola Park-and-Ride hub is used by about 600 daily commuters every day, and it currently is operating at capacity, she said.
Wolk said that forces many transit riders and other commuters to park on surrounding streets.
SolTrans expects to expand the hub’s parking capacity and will install new electric vehicle charging stations, build a new transit center and remodel the carpool and passenger dropoff and waiting areas. The work is expected to be finished by June 2016.
“As a result of this new law, commuters in Vallejo will have greater access to public transportation, which is good for both commuters’ pocketbooks and the environment,” Wolk said.
