Ever wanted to see Led Zeppelin perform live? Well, it’s not going to happen. Apart from a couple one-off shows, the hard rock legends have not toured since their disbandment in 1980 and the prospect of an extensive reunion seems very unlikely. The closest one would get to hearing their classic songs performed live would be to watch a tribute act.
As it turns out, one Zeppelin tribute band is coming to the Empress Theatre in Vallejo this week. However, this group has something different to offer: all of its members are female.
Zepparella are a San Francisco-based tribute band featuring Noelle Doughty on vocals, Gretchen Menn on guitar, Angeline Saris on bass and Clementine on drums. According to the band’s website, Zepparella were the brainchild of Clementine, a drummer who made it a mission to perform on stage every night, which led her through several projects including another all-female hard rock tribute band: AC/Dshe. She eventually crossed paths with Doughty, Menn and Saris, all of whom had a shared love of classic rock, especially the almighty Zeppelin. Zepparella pay tribute to their forebearers while still bringing their own style to Led Zeppelin’s classic songs. Tracks in their repertoire include such well-known songs as “Whole Lotta Love,” “Dazed and Confused” and “Kashmir,” as well as some deeper cuts like “When the Levee Breaks,” “How Many More Times,” “Moby Dick” (possibly giving Clementine an opportunity to emulate John Bonham’s famous drum solo), and many more.
Zepparella will be performing at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13 at the Empress, located at 330 Virginia St. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the show. For more information, call 552-2400 or visit EmpressTheatre.org.

Alas, “the prospect of an extensive reunion” would require the resurrection of Bonham.
