Seven minutes was all it took for the Planning Commission to wrap up its Thursday meeting. The lone action on the agenda was to approve the consent calendar, which contained a number of items all approved by the commission in one motion.
The first item on the consent calendar– apart from approving the draft minutes of the previous meeting on Jan. 11– was an application of the use permit for nonconforming outdoor storage of construction equipment and materials on 2000 Park Road. On Nov. 9, the commission held a public hearing to discuss the application. It was decided by the commission to push the item back to Jan. 11. On Dec. 4, city staff and the applicant held meetings at the project site. Additional research into the site history and the proposed use was conducted by staff. Staff said they needed more time to complete the analysis before the application returns to the Planning Commission.
The next item on the consent calendar was the variance for take-out service with 500 feet of a park at 155 Military East after determining the project exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act. Property owner Brian McCorduck is seeking approval of a Variance for takeout service within 500 feet of a park in certain districts to accommodate Sprankle’s Deli, which is in the process of relocating to the space. The previous restaurant at the space was a Kentucky Fried Chicken that opened around 1974 and closed in 2016.
The final item on the consent calendar was the General Plan progress report to the state of California after finding the report is not a project under the California Environmental Quality Act. Every year, California cities are required to submit an annual report of the status of their General Plan and progress in its implementations to the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research and Department of Housing and Community Development. This report must be presented to the City Council, which staff says they are currently planning to do.
The commission will next meet on Thursday, March 8.
