An autopsy has found that a man whose decomposed body was found July 5 buried near Lemon and Derr streets was murdered, Vallejo police Lt. Jeff Bassett said Tuesday.
However, detectives still don’t know who the man is, Bassett said.
“We have been unable to identify the victim as the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition,” he said.
An anthropological examination showed that the victim was a Hispanic man between 30 and 50 years old, who stood between 5 foot 6 and 5 foot 10, Bassett said.
At the time of his death, the man was wearing a dark extra-large “G-Unit” T-shirt and Denizen jeans, 36 inch to 38 inch in the waist and about 30 inches long.
Police were called to Derr and Lemon streets the night of July 5 after someone reported finding a body buried near the South Vallejo waterfront, Bassett said.
Though the nature of the death was not disclosed, police immediately began investigating the death as a homicide, Bassett said, and the Solano County coroner concurred.
A DNA profile of the victim has been developed, but it has not been matched yet, Bassett said.
He asked anyone with information about tthe victim or the circumstances of his murder to call Detective Sean Kenney at 707-648-4342 or Detective Raul Munoz at 707-648-4531.
Those with information also may call Vallejo police at 800-488-9383, or give the information anonymously through Solano Crime Stoppers’ tip line, 707-644-STOP (7867).
