For the fourth year, Wisconsin artist Scott Wong’s international art experiment, “Flood the Streets with Art Day,” will fill public streets worldwide with free art work the day after Thanksgiving – and Benicia artist Randy Bernard hopes artists of all genres will join him in participating this year in Benicia.
The special day was conceived by Wong as a way to extend the thankfulness expressed on Thanksgiving Day Thursday, an alternative to filling that day with shopping the Black Friday sales. He encourages everyone to leave a work of art in a public place for people to take for free. Last year, over 6,000 pieces of art were placed for the taking, with participants in all 50 states in the U.S. and more than 30 countries worldwide, according to Wong.
“Make sure to tag your art so people know it’s up for grabs,” Wong reminds artists. “The goal is simple: On Nov. 25, 2016, I want every human being on our planet to drop one piece of art they’ve created on the streets of their community for a random stranger to find, pick up, take home and love – for free.”
Bernard has enlisted a number of people from Benicia’s extensive art community to participate and he encourages everyone to simply place a piece of art of any genre out in public for someone to take. It’s intended to be a simple process, but more information about the event can be found on Wong’s Facebook page at facebook.com/groups/ floodthestreetswithart.
