The Economic Development Board may be nominating and electing a chair and vice chair at its Wednesday meeting.
As part of the Brown Act, the Economic Development Board must hold open elections for its chair and vice chair to serve one-year terms, which will last from January to December 2017. The positions of chair and vice chair are currently held by Sean Finn and Lionel Largaespada respectively.
According to a document by economic development specialist Teri Davena, the chair will open the floor for nominations, after which members of the board may nominate a member for the designated office. After the nominations are finished, the chair will close the nominations and move on to the elections. No seconds are required for nominations.
“If there is only one nomination, then that nomination may be approved by acclimation without a vote, the EDB secretary will announce this result,” Davena wrote. “If there are multiple nominations, then the chair shall conduct an election in the order the nominations were offered.”
Davena noted that an election can occur by voice vote, which means the chair may ask the board if they are in favor of or opposed to the nominee, to which they will respond “aye” or “no.”
“If there are a majority of ‘ayes,’ then that board member is elected,” Davena wrote. “If the ‘nos’ are in the majority, then the chair will move to the next nominated board member.”
In other matters, the board will be looking to approve new business licenses for the following applicants: Barnett Medical Service, Carnation Healing Spa, Ryan Process, The Lynell Real Estate Group, Toe 2 Toe Investment Properties and Top End Construction.
The Economic Development Board will meet at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30 in the Commission Room of City Hall, located at 250 East L St. This will be the last meeting of the year due to the December holidays. The board usually meets the fourth Wednesday of every month.
