The word ‘flummoxed’ is one I have never used to describe reactions to any past events. But what we have seen post-election, more specifically since the inauguration, have indeed made that word appropriate.
Many aspects of the events of the past 90 days are bewildering indeed. Reflecting on some of the high (or low notes), we have:
Early Election Night – My wife and I attended an election night party, hoping for the best, resigned to the worst. We left early, thinking that Hillary would be the next president. The worst was seen as becoming a reality.
The Night Goes On – Arriving home we opened a bottle of a Champagne, remembering the words of Napoleon: “In victory, you deserve Champagne, in defeat you need it.” We opened the bottle in need and later capped it in optimistic uncertainty, as it seemed Hillary was sinking faster than the Titanic.
What the Hell Happened? – The next day we knew. Our Democrat friends were despondent The rest of us were delirious in unexpected jubilation. How had this happened? Democrats have had meetings, hugged each other, cried tears, donned safety pins, opened “safe spaces,” and have fully analyzed what went wrong.
And they still have not figured it out.
The answer is far more simple than the elites think: Yes, the Donald is rude, crude, and brash, but also easier to take than the alternative.
Obama— Closing the door on him was welcomed in all corners of the country. From Joe Jost’s in Long Beach, California to the decaying factories towns of Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and others. The elites just did not get it. The Donald did.
Welcome to Trump’s America – Yes, we were told we are the “deplorables,” we cling to our guns and Bibles, but the Trump haters overlook reality: that is merely who they want to think we are.
We are in fact many things:
We may attend a mixed race church in Richmond were we help others in need seeing humanity and not race.
We work in factories, not caring who is next to us, as long as they carry their load.
We are the people in the offices and small businesses of the nation who appreciate a hard day’s work.
We are the people who welcome immigrants, those who endured, followed the rules and waited, a year, two, maybe three, if they were lucky.
We are those that appreciate the law, recognizing that those who do not, do not get priorities over those who do.
We are those that understand the Constitution, valuing the Second Amendment as much as we do the forgotten 10th.
We are those that fought, so that others may be free.
We are those that have, fought and been forgotten.
We are the families of those that did not return.
We are the Americans who welcome those who love what America means.
We are the Americans who want to help those in need and deplore those who simply are in want.
Welcome to the Trump Presidency— Make no mistake about it: the political elite are out to destroy Trump. His presidency, still in its infancy, is being attacked from more directions than was Custer. The media, along with the Democrats, are the expected opposition. Adding to that we have the Obama administration holdovers and the intelligence gathering organizations, which serve to deepen the opposition. Indeed we have Obama himself organizing the opposition.
Yet these may not be the most invidious. I refer to the deep-rooted insiders of Washington. Those that infest the halls of bureaucracy. These are the people who really detest Trump as they are the people whose lives are dependent on the existent swamp. They are the ones who care more for their positions of low level power than for the good of the American people. They represent the epitome of arrogance, as they believe they define, as well as control, what we need.
Where do we go from here? – We saw the riots at the inauguration, we saw the destruction in Berkeley. We are witnessing the systematic attempts to destroy a presidency. We hear Maxine Waters calling for impeachment before new curtains have been hung in the living quarters of the White House. We have listened to Elizabeth Warren in her tirades against Jeff Sessions, accusing him of racism but ignoring he has been honored by those who stand in accusation.
We have seen an innocent man, General Flynn, destroyed because he dared to support Trump. We will see others– perhaps Kellyanne Conway– as once the sharks taste blood, they desire more.
Yes, it is that bad – The left told everyone that they defined open-mindedness. Today they seek to destroy the innocent to achieve their goals. I probably should not be surprised by these actions, but the depths to which they have sunk are shocking.
What we are watching transpire today is the open, and well financed promotion of the suppression of civil rights based on one’s political beliefs.
Worth noting is one Yvette Felarca, a Berkeley, California school teacher, who seeks to redefine the First Amendment:
“(Milo Yiannopoulos) should not be allowed to speak in public to spread his racist, misogynistic and homophobic lies. No. He does not have the right to do that.”
Felarca has a history of violence, yet is defended by many who now seek to bring the nation down while enforcing their will upon us. People such as her are encouraged, tolerated and have been given responsibility over our children.
Fellarca represents those who are steadfastly determined to destroy President Trump. No president since the election of Abraham Lincoln has been more reviled or attacked. And we all know how that ended.
Today we are witnessing a modern equivalent, as those aligned against trump seek to destroy him by any means necessary. I fear that we are only seeing the beginning.
But that fear must be channeled appropriately to not let this presidency be destroyed.

Thank you Dennis. A very good article that is spot on. Living in Benicia a person like me who just happens to agree with your article in total is looked down upon. I do not mind that and will continue to support American and Benicia. But we have issues in Benicia that are being overlooked by a Mayor and new councilmember to push their own personal agenda ideals. Both speaking out against President Trump. I must admit they do get an audience. But for how long. As we see our roads, sidewalks and potholes decline and a good possibility of a cut in services will the residents wakeup? I sure hope so. We in California, Solano County and Benicia are starting to see what is ahead financial for the wonderful residents. Just start with CalPers and then go the Benicia measure C.. Both big issues in Benicia with CalPers being a huge issue state wide. I remember Mario Savio and his partner Bertha Apthdecker. {spelling may wrong} Bethina was a pure Communist. What your very good article brings out is happening in California, Bay Area and to some extent in Benicia. Keep at it Dennis. You are appreciated.
