Economic Development Manager Mario Giuliani, currently the liaison between the city and the Downtown Benicia Alliance, will give that group a report Monday on the status of the collections of the Business Improvement District assessments and provide a tentative timeline on the first deposit with Bank of the West.
Giuliani’s report will come at the DBA’s regular meeting.
“For the budget, I am going to review with the board the list of those received invoices,” he said Friday.
“It’s looking like it’s around $31,000 for the total value of the assessments that went out,” he added, stressing that the numbers were preliminary.
He said the DBA will reimburse the city for the cost of the contract with consultant Civitas, as well as for insurance.
“The balance will go to the city,” Giuliani said, as partial payment for the city’s coverage of the cost of the downtown lights.
The contract was briefly explained by Carson Lambeth of Civitas in their first public meeting in February. “The contract is to help form the nonprofit corporation that will manage the (BID),” she said.
“What we do is, we help them with the tax status, create bylaws, and we help them file with the state to become an official corporation,” Lambeth said.
The first part of the payment to Civitas will be $1,000, which will be collected in June, with the remaining amount of $2,000 due in June 2014.
Also Monday, DBA’s board will review quotes and take action on obtaining Directors and Officers (DNO) insurance.
The DBA will also hear reports from subcommittees on a logo/website design, promotions and advocacy.
Representatives of the advocacy panel will request board action to submit official correspondence to the city advocating an alternative to the use of “tree ribbons” on First Street.
