Jerry Johnson comes into Java Point Cafe every day. He has done so for the past seven years. Baristas know his order, and almost everybody knows his name One day, Johnson noticed something different in downtown Benicia. It was someone who would change his life forever.
On Saturday afternoon, friends and family gathered to witness Jerry Johnson and Debbie Moore get married in front of Java Point Cafe.
Java Point is special to Johnson and Moore, as it’s the spot where Johnson first noticed Moore taking her daily five-mile walk. Johnson said he got up from his seat that day and asked Moore if he could accompany her on her walk. She accepted, and what followed was a courtship that morphed into a marriage at the spot where the couple had their meet-cute.
Moore said what attracted her to Johnson was that she considered him to be the kindest and sweetest person she had ever known. Johnson said when he saw Moore, right then and there he decided she would not be the one who got away.
“It’s amazing,” friend Alberto said. “I don’t know Debbie that well, but I’ve known Jerry for quite some time now. I’m happy for them and excited.”
The couple will honeymoon in Mendocino before settling down at Johnson’s house in Benicia.
Sally Breden watched the matrimonial ceremony from her store next to Java Point Cafe and said, “If you didn’t do it now, then do it when you’re 76.”
